This booklet comprises all invited contributions of an interdisciplinary workshop of the UNESCO operating crew on platforms research of the eu and North American area entitled "Stochastic Phenomena and Chaotic Behaviour in advanced Systems". The assembly used to be held at resort Winterthalerhof in Flattnitz, Karnten, Austria from June 6-10, 1983. This workshop introduced jointly a few 20 mathematicians, physicists, chemists, biologists, psychologists and economists from various eu and American coun­ attempts who percentage a typical curiosity within the dynamics of complicated structures and their ana­ lysis by way of mathematical suggestions. The workshop in Flattnitz persevered a sequence of conferences of the UNESCO operating crew on platforms research which all started in 1977 in Bucharest and used to be endured in Cambridge, U.K., 1981 and in Lyon, 1982. The name of the assembly used to be selected on the way to concentrate on one of many present difficulties of the research of dynamical platforms. A deeper knowing of the vari­ ous assets of stochasticity is of fundamental value for the translation of experimental observations. Chaotic dynamics performs a imperative function because it intro­ duces a stochastic aspect into deterministic systems.
