These are accurate and reliable, but have some inherent problems: they are difficult to mass-produce, and they have high source impedance, which means that their signals must be very carefully amplified. Moreover, the use of the traditional piezoelectric accelerometers for simultaneous multiple data collection points was considered to be impractical; this is mainly because of their cost as well as the costs of the associated electronic signal conditioning units.
